Reasons for the Award Globo Verde Dominicano
The environment and sustainable development have been among the predominant issues undertaken by the GFDD/FUNGLODE since the founding of this organization. For that reason, the GFDD/FUNGLODE continues to create new initiatives with the idea of generating awareness of these important issues, especially among young people, upon whom rests the responsibility of continuing this work for a better future.

To attain and motivate this empowerment, GFDD/FUNGLODE, within the framework of the II Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival, has decided to launch Award Globo Verde Dominicano, the first short film and public service announcement competition in the area of environment and sustainable development.

The first short film and public service announcement competition is a unique opportunity for filmmakers, students and professionals to get involved in a little-explored area in the Dominican Republic: the making of audiovisual material on issues related to the environment. They will also have the opportunity to show their work to a national and international audience at the III Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival which will take place in September 4 – 8, 2013.

Contestants can be any individual of Dominican nationality, whether residing in the country or not. The short presented must not exceed 15 minutes in length when competing in the category of short films and not longer than 40 seconds when competing in the public service announcement category. The genre is open, however, with the necessary condition that the topic must be about the environment and its numerous and varied angles.

General Objective
To motivate Dominican youth to make audiovisual productions which generate awareness of the importance of the environment and sustainable development.

Specific Objectives
• To promote reflection on the reality of the Dominican environment and sustainable development and their implications for the future.
• To generate proposals  for the improvement of these problems facing the Dominican Republic in the areas of environment and sustainable development through the production of short films and public service announcements on the environment and sustainable development.
